HUGE NEWS! Changes for Moore Approved

For over a year James and I have enjoyed sharing our lives, projects, and cat photos with all of you, but there will be changes to this blog.

Ever since I discovered sewing soon after moving from the Tampa Bay area in Florida to Atlanta, I’ve been absolutely hooked. My love of all things involving a needle and thread have driven me to brainstorm ideas of how I could contribute to the community and help to encourage and educate the “outside world” about what we do.

You may not know this, but Moore Approved was originally intended to document home and DIY projects, but somehow morphed into a sewing blog along the way.

While it’s been very enjoyable, I felt many of the topics and ideas I’ve had are bigger than just a personal blog.

I have avoided discussing my career up until now, but I’m going to share some personal details about myself because it is pertinent.

I’m a TV journalist with 14+ years of experience doing everything from producing newscasts and special projects programming, website editing/writing, video producing/editing, and running the assignment desk – working in 6 local newsrooms and two national networks. Over the course of my career, I have met and worked with countless celebrities, politicians, small businesses, and major brands.

So what does that have to do with anything?

For quite some time, I feel like I haven’t been able to find my “place” in this community. Many sewists and quilters who have a blog/website are either pattern designers, sell handmade goods, teach, do free tutorials, write books, design fabric, longarm quilt, etc…

None of those things are a great fit for me.

Writing the Quiltonomics article and a few others seems to have struck a resonating chord with you. Why? I theorize it’s because this type of content rarely exists. Traditional media outlets don’t tend to cover the textile arts, with the exception of the occasional story about the 104-year-old lady who quilts or the Detroit woman sewing sleeping bags that convert into coats for the homeless.

Sewing and quilting publications focus on how-to’s, patterns, and the occasional profile of someone in the industry – but they don’t do real news. In fact, I was unable to find any sort of dedicated media outlet solely dedicated to the sewing/quilting community.

So I’m starting one myself!

Sewing Report LogoSewing Report will cover everything you care about – the latest fabrics, books, patterns, hot sales, happenings, product/pattern reviews, and updates on sewlebrities. Plus, I plan to research and write feature articles on a number of topics. Beyond that, I am working to build out a huge database as a one-stop-shop for online resources.

Here’s where I need your help:

This is obviously a HUGE project, and I am in need of both content and information. If you work in the sewing/quilting industry – I’d love to hear from you! Send me your press releases and news tips to sewingreport@gmail.com.  If you’re a sewlebrity – feel free to email me a headshot and we can talk about featuring you on the site!

Sewing Report will be run as an actual newsroom, which relies heavily on receiving tips and press releases. Yes, I do plan to scour the internet as much as humanly possible, but your assistance would be greatly appreciated to make this outlet the best it can be.

If you’d like to follow Sewing Report, you can sign up for our email list on the home page, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

We will continue to blog about non-sewing related topics here at Moore Approved, but everything related to sewing and quilting will shift over to Sewing Report.

Looking forward to starting up this venture and thank you for your support!

-Jennifer Moore
